I currently manage BeerRitz, the award-winning off-licence featured elsewhere on this site. I've done this for five years, and the shop is doing just fine in my hands. I'm a columnist for Off Licence News, and I'm also a member of the British Guild of Beer Writers.
Alongside this, I run my own beer, wine and whisky tasting business, which is what this website is all about. The business is currently growing by word of mouth recommendations, based on successful events.
Previously, I have worked as (in chronological order) a textile printer for a high end UK fashion designer (from trainee to printer in two years), a chef in a Good Food Guide listed restaurant (from kitchen porter to sous chef in one year), a sculptors assistant (carpentry and fabrication), followed by seven years in higher education, detailed below.
I passed all nine of the 'O' levels (yes, I'm that old) that I took in 1986. I left school, went out and worked for a few years (as outlined above), then went to Leeds University, passing a psychology degree with a solid 2.1. I was then slightly less successful taking on a Ph.D at the Open University, which is currently uncompleted.
Interspersed with the work and education is a smattering of music and DJing (I've now unofficially retired from both), most notably culminating in work on the album 'Wreckage' by Overseer.
My most recent aquisition is a WSET Advanced Certificate, which I passed with a distinction. I have a licence for car, motorbike and alcohol off-sales.
I'm literate, numerate and articulate, with a 'can do' attitude towards most challenges. I'm a good communicator, and have good analytical and lateral thinking skills. I like to work hard, to a high standard, and with close attention to detail. And while I'm currently very happy in my two jobs, I'm always open to offers and commissions.
